Outpost
Entering 6th through 9th grade
Outpost provides campers with the opportunity to discover new
adventures in a positive, relaxed and fun environment with sensitive,
mature counselors. This is a challenging adventure program designed to
provide a more rugged and varied approach to the Tom Sawyer Camp day.
Campers ride horses and swim in the traditional Tom Sawyer programs,
but the emphasis of Outpost is on rockclimbing, windsurfing and the
challenging ropes course taught by our staff at local sites. In each
activity, campers progress through beginning skills and safety
procedures to meet their own levels of challenge.
Many lasting friendships are started in Outpost, and a number
of Tom Sawyer staff members were once Outpost campers. Campers are
grouped by age in coed groups of 13 led by a senior counselor and an
assistant counselor. Since we have found that a 5 day a week program
enhances this experience, Outpost is available only on a 5 day week
basis. Outpost operates for 9 weeks with three 3-week sessions. Camp begins each day at 9:10 and ends at 4:00.
During the 10th week of camp we offer a Camper In Leadership
Training program. This week is open to any Outpost camper entering
eighth or ninth grade that is interested in becoming a Junior Counselor
in the future. Information about this program is provided in the late spring. |
